Otis

Our Calendar 2027 featuring our cats is now available for ordering!

In April 2024, Kareema received a message from one of her regular taxi drivers. In the building where the taxi driver lived, a kitten had gotten stuck in the elevator door as it was closing.

The kitten was in very bad condition and was taken to the vet and operated on. After a week of intensive care the kitten came to ‘the haven’ where he has been ever since.

The kitten was named Otis by his first sponsor.

Otis is estimated to be born around March 2024. And therefore approximately 1 year old.

Otis had a broken jaw when he was found. He had surgery for this. He needed intensive care for one week after the surgery.

Now he is a healthy young cat, with no known health problems.

Otis is very friendly and affectionate towards people.

He will come and sit on your lap for a cuddle as soon as you sit down. He loves to be petted all the time. Otis gets along well with the other cats and cat-friendly dogs at ‘the haven’.

Like all SHE cats, Otis has had his vaccinations. These are against common cat diseases and rabies. He is also chipped and has had a deworming and anti-flea treatment. Otis is neutered and also litter box trained.

We attach great importance to the safety of our SHE cats. A SHE adoption cat must be an indoor cat. A very well-sealed outdoor space or cat run is of course also good.

Is anyone interested in giving this very cuddly lap cat a safe and loving home?

Texas

Our Calendar 2027 featuring our cats is now available for ordering!

In late 2024, a photo of a cat missing part of his back leg started circulating among animal rescuers in Cairo. He was rescued, taken to our shelter, and received the medical care he needed. – And got the name ‘Texas’ from his sponsor.

At first, it looked like the remaining part of Texas’ back leg could be saved. He moved around surprisingly well.

But over time, the area kept getting sore and had to be treated several times. In the end, our vet decided the best option was to fully amputate the leg. His wound has now healed, and Texas is ready to begin a new chapter in his life.

He’s estimated to be born around November 2023. So he is now about 1.5 years old. During his recovery, he was also microchipped, vaccinated, and neutered. He still needs to complete the waiting period required for international travel. Starting July 2025, Texas will be cleared to travel to the EU, Switzerland, the UK, the USA, or Canada.

Texas is a stunning young cat – active and playful. He has strikingly bright, differently coloured eyes. This iris heterochromia is more common in all-white cats but quite unusual in cats with mixed fur like Texas.

Our shelter manager, Koky, does not think that Texas is feral. However, at the moment, he is still shy with humans. She believes that with gentle care and patience, he will learn to trust.

With other cats – and even the two shelter dogs – he is very friendly. He would do best in a quiet home without small children, where he is not pressured and is allowed to gain confidence at his own pace. A confident group of resident cats could help him settle in, or he could bring a trusting cat buddy with him to his new home.

Shy cats like Texas often turn into the biggest cuddle bugs over time, though, of course, there are no guarantees.

What he truly needs is someone who will love him just the way he is.

Since we prioritize safety for our rescue cats, we only adopt into indoor homes. For Texas, who has only three legs, this is extra important. However, a secured balcony, cat-safe garden, or outdoor catio would be a lovely bonus though not a requirement.

Can you be his special person for Texas? – That would be exceptional. Please check out our adoption procedure if you think you could be the human for Texas. And please contact us about it.

Cory

Our Calendar 2027 featuring our cats is now available for ordering!

Cory is one of the many blind kittens that Kareema has rescued from the busy streets of Cairo, which is a good thing, since blind kittens don’t stand a chance of surviving on the streets.

He is estimated to be around 5 years old. So he was probably born in 2020.

Cory is a calm cat, friendly to all other cats and cat-friendly dogs. He is shy towards people and does not let himself be petted. He is a non-touch cat.

That can certainly change. The chance is even considerable. In Haven, the cats cannot get the personal attention that an adopter can give. And the hustle and bustle with the many other cats is not ideal to gain trust.

With love and a patient attitude, much is possible. But ultimately there is no guarantee. Whoever takes Corry into their home can hope that he will become a lap cat. But must be able to accept that this may not happen.

Cory is completely blind and has a crooked position of his head, which he holds slightly to the right. He experiences no discomfort from this, he manages fine in ‘the haven’. Cory has no other known health problems.

He has received his basic vaccination against common cat diseases and rabies. And an anti-flea treatment and anti-worm treatment. Cory is litter box trained and neutered.

We attach great importance to a safe home environment for our cats, therefore Cory must be an indoor cat.

Sir Vanderbilt

Our Calendar 2027 featuring our cats is now available for ordering!

It was December 2024 when Kareema saw a post about a nearly blind young cat on the busy streets of Cairo.

As so often, se brought him to safety as soon as possible. As we all know, blind cats don’t stand a chance when they are alone on the streets.

The cat was taken to ‘the haven’ and was named Sir Vanderbilt. It is estimated that Sir Vanderbilt is about 1 year old, his date of birth is around January 2024.

Sir Vanderbilt is missing his right eye, according to the vet he can still see shadows with his left eye. Fortunately this does not bother him at all.

Sir Vanderbilt is a very gentle and friendly cat to all cats and the cat friendly dog in ‘the haven’.

Sir Vanderbilt is also a real cuddler towards people, he loves to be petted.

Like all SHE cats, he has received his vaccinations. These are against common cat diseases and rabies.

He is also microchipped and spayed. Has received his deworming and flea treatment. Sir Vanderbilt is also litter box trained.

We attach great importance to the safety of our SHE cats. A SHE adoption cat must be an indoor cat.

With Sir Vanderbilt this is extra important because he is almost blind and cannot see any dangers on the street. A very well enclosed outdoor area or cat run is of course also good.

Piper

Our Calendar 2027 featuring our cats is now available for ordering!

It was September 2021 when Kareema’s husband came home with a little kitten. He found this kitten in an extremely crowded place full of people and cars and he simply couldn’t leave her there because she wouldn’t survive much longer.

According to bystanders, she had been crying out loudly for about three days. Kareema took the little kitten to the safety of ‘the haven’ where she was named Piper.

Piper is estimated to be approximately 3.5 years old and has been in ‘the haven’ for over 3 years. So she must been born about August 2021.

Piper is a quiet cat that is friendly to other cats and a cat-friendly dog in ‘the haven’. Piper is still shy towards people and does not let herself be touched. She will run away if you come too close.

Like all SHE cats, Piper has received her vaccinations. These are for common cat diseases and rabies. She is also micro-chipped and has received her de-worming and anti-flea treatment. Piper is sterilized and is also litter-box trained.

We attach great importance to the safety of our SHE cats. A SHE adoption cat must be an indoor cat. A very well-sealed outdoor space or cat run is of course also good.

Who can offer this quiet, yet shy lady a loving home? – Where she will hopefully learn to trust ‘her people’.

She deserves it after more than three years in ‘the haven’.

Are you that unique person who wants to give Piper a chance?

Sangria

Our Calendar 2027 featuring our cats is now available for ordering!

It was July 2024 when Kareema found a cat dumped next to ‘the haven’.

Sadly this happens all too often. These cats don’t stand a chance on the streets. The cat was quickly captured and taken inside to the safety of ‘the haven’.

The cat was named Sangria.

Sangria is estimated to be around 2 to 3 years old. The estimated date of birth is somewhere around August 2022. Sangria gets along well with the other cats and the cat-friendly dog in ‘the haven’. Sangria is still very shy towards people, she does not let herself be touched and will run away if you come near.

Like all SHE cats, Sangria has received her vaccinations. This against common cat diseases and rabies. She is also chipped and has received her deworming and anti-flea treatment. Sangria is sterilized and is also litter-box trained.

We attach great importance to the safety of our SHE cats. A SHE adoption cat must be an indoor cat. A very well-sealed outdoor space or cat run is of course also good.

Pluto

Our Calendar 2027 featuring our cats is now available for ordering!

It was October 2022 when Kareema Ibraheem received a message about a tiny kitten wandering alone on the busy streets of Cairo. As always, Kareema made sure that the kitten was taken off the dangerous busy street as soon as possible.

So this little guy came into ‘the haven’ and was given the name Pluto.

Pluto had a very big belly full of stool, on the street he probably wouldn’t have lasted much longer. With the right treatment and a lot of TLC, Pluto has grown into a healthy young boy. Pluto is estimated to be around 2.5 years old. His date of birth will be sometime in August 2022.

He is a very gentle and friendly cat to all cats and the cat friendly dog in ‘the haven’.

Also is Pluto a real cuddler towards people. He loves to be petted and will occasionally crawl on your lap for some attention.

Like all SHE cats, Pluto has received his vaccinations. This against common cat diseases and rabies. He is also chipped and neutered. Has received his deworming and anti-flea treatment. Pluto is also litter-box trained.

Pluto was tested for FIV/FeLV in February 2026 and his test came back negative.

We attach great importance to the safety of our SHE cats. A SHE adoption cat must be an indoor cat. With Pluto this is extra important because he has grown up in the safety of the shelter from an early age. A very well-enclosed outdoor space or cat run is of course also good.

Who can offer this young cuddly guy a safe home?
