Amelia

When Kareema, who runs the rescue, was driving home in early September 2021 after a busy day at ‘the haven’ she saw children playing by throwing kittens at street dogs.

The children found it funny that the kittens were scared and tried to run away from the dogs. There were three kittens, unfortunately one of them had already been bitten to death by the street dogs.

Kareema was able to save the remaining two kittens from the hands of these annoying children and that’s how these two kittens came to ‘the haven’. They were named Marcel and Amelia by their first sponsors.

Amelia gets along well with the other cats and the cat-friendly dogs in ‘the haven’.

Amelia is very friendly towards people, she loves to be petted. She often comes to sit next to Kareema to be petted. Amelia does not like to be picked up. If someone wants to pick her up and carry her around or take her somewhere, she can let you know that she does not want this by scratching. For this reason we think that Amelia should not be placed with young children.

Amelia is estimated to be almost 5 years old, her estimated date of birth is around June 2021. Amelia is a healthy young lady. Like all SHE cats, Amelia has had her vaccinations. This against common cat diseases and rabies. She is also micro chipped and has had a de-worming and anti-flea treatment.

Amelia is spayed and also litter box trained. Amelia is ready to pack her bags and move.

We attach great importance to the safety of our SHE cats. A SHE adoption cat must be an indoor cat. Because Amelia has been used to the safe environment of ‘the haven’ since she was a kitten, this is extra important to her. A very well-sealed outdoor area or cat run is of course also good.

Amelia has been staying in ‘the haven’ for 3.5 years, she hopes that she can soon pack her suitcase to move to her own loving home. If you are interested, please contact us, we are happy to speak to you.

Mister Pappy

In Haven are many cats. And there is large range of the type of cats that found a spot in our rescue. Most common ones are the short hair ones.

But all types and colours can and do show up. Also the fancy ones. That are the type cats that are in favor of local Egyptian families who seek a cat. But that does not mean those are safe to not get kicked out. The reasons are usually very thin. Like in the case of Mister Pappy ‘We don’t want him anymore, kids need to study’.

Those fancy house cats do poorly on the streets. Mister Pappy came directly from his former home to Haven. The best that could happen in his situation.

Mister Pappy is estimated to be born end of 2023. So he about 2 years old now. He has received his vaccinations and his castrated.

As a former house cat he is used to living in a home and is litter box trained. He has experience with children. Mister Pappy is a playful cat. It his expected he will become even more fluffy when aging than he is currently.

The only known negative point is that he allegedly distracts children who needs to study.

Mister Pappy almost ended up on the streets, where he probably would have died soon. Who ever adopts him needs to be able to offer him a safe place. That means he needs to be an indoor cat. With preventive steps taken to secure windows and other risk factors.

If you think you can that person please look at our adoption process. And please do not hesitate to contact us.

Mummy Marmalade

Some months ago there was a post about a cat that gave birth to four kittens on the busy streets of Caïro.

Something that happens daily with countless cats in Ca¨ïro. But these had the luck to get the attention of Kareema Ibraheem, who runs the rescue, and she sent someone to rescue the new mom with babies.

Sadly her kittens didn’t make it but Mummy Marmalade did. The hard life on the streets sadly cost her one eye but that doesn’t hold her back to enjoy life at the Haven right now!

Mummy Marmalade is estimated to be born in 2023. So she is about 3 years old.

She has been de-wormed, flea-treated, neutered, micro-chipped, and has almost completed all necessary vaccinations against common feline diseases and rabies, making her ready to travel to the UK, EU, Switzerland, USA, and Canada by February.

Mummy Marmalade is a super friendly cat towards people, she will come up to you to get some attention. At the haven Mummy Marmalade is okay with all the other cats.

For safety reasons, SHE only adopts cats into indoor homes. Of course, Mummy Marmalade would love a secure outdoor space, like a cat-proofed balcony or enclosed garden area.

Are you ready to give Mummy Marmalade the loving and secure forever home she deserves? If so, check out our adoption process. – If you have questions or wish to adopt her please do not hesitate to contact us.

Maria

Not long ago, Kareema, who manages the rescue, saw a post about a cat that had likely been hit by a car, dragging its hind legs behind it. Because a paralyzed cat doesn’t stand a chance of surviving in the busy streets of Cairo.

Kareema immediately had her rescued from the streets. That is how the cat came to “The Haven,” where her first sponsor named her Maria.

Maria is estimated to be born in 2023. So about 3 years old. She has is paralyzed from behind, which doesn’t bother her much.

Fortunately, she can still use the litter box independently; her bladder doesn’t need to be emptied manually. Maria gets along well with the other cats at “The Haven.”

She’s very affectionate towards people and loves being cuddled and receiving attention.

Like all SHE cats, Maria has received all her vaccinations against common feline diseases and rabies. Maria is micro chipped, de-wormed and has received an de flee treatment. Maria is spayed and litter-box trained. Maria will be ready to pack her bags in October.

We attach great importance to the safety of our SHE cats. A SHE cat adopted must be an indoor cat, because Maria is paralyzed this especially important for her. A well-enclosed outdoor area or cat run is also beneficial.

Who will fall for this super affectionate lady and offer her a loving forever home? Interested? Send us a message. We are happy to help.

And please take a look at our adoption procedure.

Priscilla

Priscilla was rescued from the streets by a family member of one of the administrators at Safe Haven Egypt. Unfortunately, they couldn’t keep her, so Priscilla came to the haven. Her first sponsor gave her the beautiful name Priscilla.

Priscilla is a very smart, playful, and friendly young lady of about 2 years old, who loves attention. Estimated born around late 2023 or early 2024.

Priscilla is what we call an Egyptian Mau. At the haven, Priscilla also gets along well with other cats and a cat-friendly dog.

Like all SHE cats, Priscilla has received all her vaccinations. These are against common feline diseases and rabies. Priscilla is micro-chipped, de-wormed, and flea-resistant. She is spayed and litter-box trained. Priscilla is completely ready to pack her bags.

We attach great importance to the safety of our SHE cats. A SHE cat for adoption must be an indoor cat. A well-enclosed outdoor area or cat run is also suitable.

Who will fall for this sweet, smart, playful, and friendly young lady with her beautiful striped coat and offer her a loving, forever home? Interested?

Please send us a message. We’re happy to help.

Lucky

It was May 18, 2024 when Kareema – the manager of the catrescue – was already busy in front of ‘the haven’ from 6 am.

When Kareema was driving home in the evening, suddenly several cars stopped in front of her, she saw a small kitten sitting under one of the cars and stopped her car too.

After chasing the kitten back and forth across the road for about 15 minutes, the kitten hid in the engine compartment of a car.

Luckily, the car driver waited patiently until Kareema was able to get the kitten out of the engine about 30 minutes later. Kareema took the little kitten home and later took him to ‘the haven’ where the kitten was aptly named Lucky by his first sponsor.

Lucky is estimated to be about 1 year old, his estimated date of birth is around March 2025. Lucky is missing a piece of his right ear, fortunately he is not bothered by this at all.

Like all SHE cats, Lucky has had his vaccinations. This against common cat diseases and rabies. He is also chipped and has had a deworming and anti-flea treatment. Lucky is neutered and also litter-box trained.

Lucky is ready to pack his bags and move to his forever home.

Lucky is very friendly towards people, he loves to get attention.

Lucky also gets along well with the other cats and cat-friendly dogs in ‘the haven’.

We attach great importance to the safety of our SHE cats. A SHE adoption cat must be an indoor cat. Because Lucky has been used to the safe environment of ‘the haven’ since he was a kitten, this is extra important to him. A very well-sealed outdoor area or cat run is of course also good.

Otis

In April 2024, Kareema received a message from one of her regular taxi drivers. In the building where the taxi driver lived, a kitten had gotten stuck in the elevator door as it was closing.

The kitten was in very bad condition and was taken to the vet and operated on. After a week of intensive care the kitten came to ‘the haven’ where he has been ever since.

The kitten was named Otis by his first sponsor.

Otis is estimated to be born around March 2024. And therefore approximately 1 year old.

Otis had a broken jaw when he was found. He had surgery for this. He needed intensive care for one week after the surgery.

Now he is a healthy young cat, with no known health problems.

Otis is very friendly and affectionate towards people.

He will come and sit on your lap for a cuddle as soon as you sit down. He loves to be petted all the time. Otis gets along well with the other cats and cat-friendly dogs at ‘the haven’.

Like all SHE cats, Otis has had his vaccinations. These are against common cat diseases and rabies. He is also chipped and has had a deworming and anti-flea treatment. Otis is neutered and also litter box trained.

We attach great importance to the safety of our SHE cats. A SHE adoption cat must be an indoor cat. A very well-sealed outdoor space or cat run is of course also good.

Texas

In late 2024, a photo of a cat missing part of his back leg started circulating among animal rescuers in Cairo. He was rescued, taken to our shelter, and received the medical care he needed. – And got the name ‘Texas’ from his sponsor.

At first, it looked like the remaining part of Texas’ back leg could be saved. He moved around surprisingly well.

But over time, the area kept getting sore and had to be treated several times. In the end, our vet decided the best option was to fully amputate the leg. His wound has now healed, and Texas is ready to begin a new chapter in his life.

He’s estimated to be born around November 2023. So he is now about 1.5 years old. During his recovery, he was also microchipped, vaccinated, and neutered. He still needs to complete the waiting period required for international travel. Starting July 2025, Texas will be cleared to travel to the EU, Switzerland, the UK, the USA, or Canada.

Texas is a stunning young cat – active and playful. He has strikingly bright, differently coloured eyes. This iris heterochromia is more common in all-white cats but quite unusual in cats with mixed fur like Texas.

Our shelter manager, Koky, does not think that Texas is feral. However, at the moment, he is still shy with humans. She believes that with gentle care and patience, he will learn to trust.

With other cats – and even the two shelter dogs – he is very friendly. He would do best in a quiet home without small children, where he is not pressured and is allowed to gain confidence at his own pace. A confident group of resident cats could help him settle in, or he could bring a trusting cat buddy with him to his new home.

Shy cats like Texas often turn into the biggest cuddle bugs over time, though, of course, there are no guarantees.

What he truly needs is someone who will love him just the way he is.

Since we prioritize safety for our rescue cats, we only adopt into indoor homes. For Texas, who has only three legs, this is extra important. However, a secured balcony, cat-safe garden, or outdoor catio would be a lovely bonus though not a requirement.

Can you be his special person for Texas? – That would be exceptional. Please check out our adoption procedure if you think you could be the human for Texas. And please contact us about it.

Pandora

It was December 2024, when Kareema found three little kittens dumped next to ‘the haven’. She quickly took the three little ones inside and they ended up in the safety of ‘the haven’. The kittens were named Spider, Paisly and Pandora.

Pandora gets along well with the other cats and the cat-friendly dogs in ‘the haven’. Pandora is very friendly towards people.

Pandora is estimated to be around 8 months old, her estimated date of birth is around July 2024.

Pandora is a healthy boy. Despite his white color, he is not deaf as white cats often are.

Like all SHE cats, Pandora has had his vaccinations. This against common cat diseases and rabies. He is also chipped and has had a deworming and anti-flea treatment. Pandora is neutered and also litter-box trained.

Pandora is ready to pack his bags and move.

We attach great importance to the safety of our SHE cats. A SHE adoption cat must be an indoor cat. Because Pandora is used to the safe environment of ‘the haven’ from kittenhood, this is extra important for him. A very well-sealed outdoor space or cat run is of course also good.

Pandora is the only one of the 3 kittens that has not yet been adopted.

Who will fall for this handsome young gentleman with his beautiful blue eyes and offer him a loving and safe home?

Is that you? – Then take a look our adoption procedure. And don’t hesitate to contact us for questions.

Does a cat not fit into your life right now? Maybe you know someone else who is looking for a cat? – Sharing is caring!

Cory

Cory is one of the many blind kittens that Kareema has rescued from the busy streets of Cairo, which is a good thing, since blind kittens don’t stand a chance of surviving on the streets.

He is estimated to be around 5 years old. So he was probably born in 2020.

Cory is a calm cat, friendly to all other cats and cat-friendly dogs. He is shy towards people and does not let himself be petted. He is a non-touch cat.

That can certainly change. The chance is even considerable. In Haven, the cats cannot get the personal attention that an adopter can give. And the hustle and bustle with the many other cats is not ideal to gain trust.

With love and a patient attitude, much is possible. But ultimately there is no guarantee. Whoever takes Corry into their home can hope that he will become a lap cat. But must be able to accept that this may not happen.

Cory is completely blind and has a crooked position of his head, which he holds slightly to the right. He experiences no discomfort from this, he manages fine in ‘the haven’. Cory has no other known health problems.

He has received his basic vaccination against common cat diseases and rabies. And an anti-flea treatment and anti-worm treatment. Cory is litter box trained and neutered.

We attach great importance to a safe home environment for our cats, therefore Cory must be an indoor cat.

Check it out our adoption procedure and don’t hesitate to contact us for questions.
