This page is about our rescue in Egypt and not 'Safe Haven Egypt USA'

SHE a registered Egyptian charity shelter for street cats in Cairo, Egypt.
It formally started in August 2015 with a single apartment as a shelter. A place of rest and safety young kittens and slightly less young kittens. Old street cats do not exist.

There the cats could gather strength until they were ready for adoption. A single apartment was soon far too limited in space.
SHE has six staff members and a veterinarian who visits very regularly and does spaying and neutering in our own operating theater. Only the kitchens are cat-free and are the center for preparing food for the cats and for administration.

SHE is founded by Walae Besada and Kareema Ibraheem, commonly known and referred to as “Koky”. – The cat shelter is currently under the leadership of Koky.
There is an international group of volunteers who support the online activities. Safe Haven Egypt depends on international donations to fund day-to-day operations.
Safe Haven Egypt lives online in its private Facebook group. There messages are posted of new incoming cats, calls for sponsorship certain guests of SHE, raffles to benefit SHE, sad news when a badly injured cat did not make it, good news when it did make it, announcements of adoption and flight to their new homes of SHE cats.
SHE’s objective is entirely focused on rescuing cats, caring for them, making them ready for adoption by socializing them and ensuring that SHE cats end up in good homes.
The SHE cats go to where the adopters live. And so some have already left for the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland, Finland, Russia, Sweden, Sardinia, the United States of America, Canada. – And also Egypt.
Currently Safe Haven Egypt is home to about 270 cats.
Our rescue consist of two buildings, 4 individual apartments with a connecting middle outside staircase to upstairs apartments and a purpose built indoor passage at the back leading from one side to the other where washing machines are kept.
Left side ground floor is the original apartment where everything happens.
Garden, kitchen, visitors, deliveries etc. Three or four side rooms. This is where some of the older or quieter cats live.
Left side upstairs – peaceful isolation apartment with small front balcony. Two or three side rooms, lots of cages for sick cats.
Purpose built stairs to mezzanine vet office. Back facing small window with great view and nice breeze for him to work in.
Right side ground floor apartment, with lovely garden.
This is where the many young adult cats live, plenty toys and tunnels, they love playing in the garden.
Purpose built smaller individual side garden rooms for younger cats and mums with older kittens.
Right side upstairs is the departure lounge with huge balcony and a couple of side rooms. This is mainly where the cats who have adopters enjoy their time until they leave to their new homes.
Purpose built staircase leading to mezzanine for mums and kitten.
This is not a strict arrangement. Cats are moved to different areas according to their vaccinations, preparation and temperament but it works well in general.
There are also security cameras installed and outdoor areas are fully enclosed with strong metal fence so no escape for these kitties.
There are about 7 staff members taking care of the cats under the direction of Koky. At night there is also someone present at Haven.
